GAIL has operated the Dabhol LNG terminal during the monsoon for the first time after completing a protective breakwater, enabling year-round operations. This marks a key step in boosting India’s LNG import capacity and energy security.
GAIL has successfully operated its Dabhol LNG terminal during the monsoon season for the first time marking a major milestone in India’s energy infrastructure. Previously the terminal had to shut down for nearly four months each year due to rough seas but the completion of a protective breakwater structure has now enabled year-round operations.
The terminal received its first monsoon-season LNG cargo in June 2025 and GAIL has applied for official “all-weather terminal” status. Currently operating at a regasification capacity of 5 million tonnes annually Dabhol is connected to key pipelines supplying gas across western and southern India.
GAIL also plans to expand capacity to 6.3 million tonnes in the next three years eventually allowing the facility to handle up to 100 LNG cargoes per year.
This advancement not only enhances India’s gas import capacity but also reduces seasonal disruptions, strengthens energy reliability and supports the nation’s growing demand for cleaner fuels.
