Machteld joined Shell in 1998 and has held a variety of leadership roles across the Downstream portfolio, spanning geographies and business lines. Her experience includes positions in Mobility, Strategy, Fleet Solutions, Lubricants, and Chemicals and Products.

Before being appointed President, Downstream, Renewables and Energy Solutions, Machteld served as Executive Vice President (EVP), Chemicals and Products. Prior to that, she was EVP, Global Lubricants, and Senior Vice President, Lubricants Americas, where she also held the role of CEO of Pennzoil-Quaker State Company.
