Gaurav Gupta is Additional Chief Secretary, Energy Department Govt. of Karnataka. He is an IAS officer of 1990 batch of Karnataka Cadre. He has put in 30 years of service in fields of Infrastructure, Commerce and Industries, Information Technology, Power and Urban Development.
In the present appointment, he looks after supervision and coordination of Energy sector i.e, generation, distribution and transmission of Power in the State and issues of Renewable Energy development.
Earlier to the present posting, he was Additional Chief Secretary, Infrastructure Development Department. In this position he administered the development of airports, sea ports, inland waterways railway lines augmentation, suburban rail and public private projects in the state.,
From April 2021 to May 2022, in the tumultuous times of COVID, he served as Chief Commissioner, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
As Additional Chief Secretary Commerce and Industries Department, he promoted investments and industrial development in the State. He was instrumental in positioning Karnataka as a global investment destination in various platforms including World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos Switzerland in January 2020.
In the above position, he has interacted with various Business houses, Trade bodies, Consulates and Embassies for promoting trade, industry and business.
Prior to this, as Principal Secretary in the Department of IT, BT, he enhanced the ecosystem of Infotech and Biotech industry, and promoted innovation, research and startups, creating centres of Excellence in new technologies such as IoT, AI, ML, Robotics with Industry partners, and on promoting cross domain innovation and use of technology in all sectors particularly in Agriculture and Health care.
